Ogden-Brigham Canal Company, miscellaneous notes, undated
Scope and Contents
This collection contains the survey notes and maps of Nephi Anderson and his son Lorenzo. Between the two, the collection covers a period from 1886 to 1946. The material divides into two distinct sections, the first being the Nephi material covering the years from 1886-1909, and the second being the Lorenzo material, covering the years from 1931- 1946.
Nephi Anderson's material details early survey work done in box Elder and Cache counties. The survey notebooks contain field notes from surveys done in Blacksmith Fork Canyon, Cache Valley and the marker for the boundary of Nevada, Utah and Idaho. Nephi's maps, numbered 1-6, include the Mantua cemetery, and the original survey of the Bear River Canal. Nephi was titled as a United States Deputy Surveyor, which at that time period was in essence a surveyor's license. Nephi also had a connection with box Elder County, what this connection was is not known.
Lorenzo Anderson's work in this collection dwells upon the Ogden- Brigham Canal. Which begins North of Ogden and follows the east slope of the Wasatch Mountains to Brigham city. A series of 28 plat maps, numbered as B 1-28, show surveyed arteries to the Ogden-Brigham canal. In addition there are two folders containing survey and miscellaneous notes concerning the Ogden-Brigham Canal.
For research reference, the survey maps in this collection can be found on the U.S.G.S. seven minute maps for Northern Utah.
