“Horatious at the Bridge,”, undated

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 7

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection largely consists of lesson plans prepared by Lydia B. Hogenson and essays written by James C. Hogenson. Other materials include correspondence and a transcribed religious talk. The documents are organized into three broad categories: Lesson Plans, School Essays and Other Materials.

Lydia composed the lesson plans in this collection for her education courses at BYC. Dating from 1896 to 1901, the plans cover ocean currents and Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Grandfather’s Chair. James wrote the essays sometime during the course of his education from 1886 to 1899. However, most of the essays are undated, so it is unclear at what point during his schooling he wrote them. The four miscellaneous folders include items that did not fit in the previous categories. These documents include two letters, a religious talk and a brief, unpublished history of Sunday school in Utah by an unknown author (most likely James).

The James Christian and Lydia Baker Hogenson papers would be useful for research into late 19th century education, particularly early education in Cache County, Utah. These papers could also supplement a study of the Utah Agricultural College and the Brigham Young College.
