Main fork of Johnson's Wash, east of Kanab, Utah, 1930

 Item — item: A-2727
Identifier: A-2727a

Scope and Contents

The channel cutting was 40' deep since settlement. Note sand and clay fill very little coarse material. The wagon road which once crossed the valley can be seen at the edge of the cut and then continuing on the other side. These cuts were not present at the time of settlement in 1870. Heavy runoff from streams transported much material and continued to widen the channel. Johnson's Wash is channeled from its very head at the base of the Pink Cliffs to where it enters Kaibab Creek in Arizona. Much valuable grazing and farmland had been destroyed.
