INFORMATION: [Unknown performer, singing songs she learned from her grandparents/parents that she taught to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Although no full names are given, some family information is interspersed throughout the tape. The titles of the songs given are from the first line.] Songs: "I had a sweet little doll, dear," "I'm a little Alabama Coon," "Gum Tree Canoe," "My Brother and I look alike, in fact he is my twin," [Grandfather Murdoch sang:] "A skunk came into our backyard," "Brian O'Lynn had a great mare," "I've lost my little grey kitty," "Two little girls in blue;" Finger plays/songs: Up, up in the sky, where the little birds fly," Five little squirrels sat up in a tree," [Taught to Stacey] "My Mother gave me 50 cents to see the elephant jump the fence," "Rub a dub dub said the boy in blue I have a gun and I'll shoot you;" Phrases: [Informant's grandmother said this phrase to her children and grandchildren at dinner] "Let your vittles stop your mouth," [Grandparents and parents said] "I don't give a continental damn!" "[Phrase the informant said to her children that became one of the family slogan. She got it from a book she read about a poor family that had to pick cotton off of bushes that sheep grazed by. It means pay attention to the task at hand; don't wonder off to greener pastures, finish your job.] "Stick to your bush;" Finger plays: "Ring the Bell, Knock at the door," "Here sits Tom Tinker" and more.
