Biographical / Historical
Utah State University's Department of Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences originally started as a course in library work. The course was offered starting in about 1904 until 1925 when it was dropped due to low course enrollment. However, the study of library science was brought back during the 1939-40 school year as a minor in Library Science in the College of Education.
The department operates under the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. Before its current department name went into effect in 2009, the department was previously known as the Division of Library Science (1939-1966), Instructional Media and Library Sciences (1966-1968), Instructional Media (1968), and Instructional Technology (1981-2008).
