Biographical Note

Rodello Hunter was born on March 23, 1920 in Provo, Utah. One of the daughters in a large family, her early life formed the basis of her book House of Many Rooms , where she describes growing up in a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints home.

In 1959, she met and married Frank James Calkins, the editor of a magazine she was working on at the time. He was an avid outdoorsman, and their experiences in the Jackson Hole area of Wyoming gave rise to the book Wyoming Wife

Typewritten draft copies of her books, House of Many Rooms, Daughter of Zion , Wyoming Wife, and several unpublished manuscripts. Also includes documents and records related to a copyright infringement lawsuit against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1997.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Gift of Rodello Hunter, likely around 1976. Later materials, especially related to her court case, were purchased from Ken Sanders Rare Books in 2023.
