Scope and Contents

Papers include biographical material, correspondence, personal papers, miscellaneous reports and orders, flight record, decorations, citations, and awards. Correspondence primarily from the period when Cannon served as commander in chief of U.S. Air Forces in Europe (1945) with a limited amount of material in regard to his post as commander of the U.S. 12th Air Force and all allied air forces in the European and Mediterranean theatres of World War II. Also includes collection of correspondence by Mrs. Cannon (LaVon Bennion) and such dignitaries as Dwight D. Eisenhower and Charles A. Lindbergh.

Forms part of the Cache Valley Veterans Archives, Utah State University Special Collections and Archives.

Four-Star General, U.S. Air Force; Commanding General of Mediterranean Allied Tactical Forces 1943-1945; Commander of Allied Air Forces in European and Mediterranean theatres, WW II; Strategist for "Operation Strangle"; Commander in Chief, U.S. Air Force in Europe, 1945-1948; Head of Air Force Tactical Command, 1951-1954.
