Carl E. Hayden National Forest collection
Scope and Contents
Carl E. Hayden, staff writer for the Salt Lake Tribune published a series of short articles on the National Forests of the Intermountain Region in 1957. The articles, which ran between February and June of that year, were written from materials furnished by the respective National Forests to Mr. Hayden.
In all, nineteen National Forests are covered in the Hayden materials. Seven Articles are listed from Utah, Seven from Idaho, while Nevada lists three and Wyoming, two. The materials contain an original typescript copy of each Salt Lake Tribune article plus selected correspondence and maps. A folder of general information is also included in this collection.
In housing these materials at the Special Collections Department of USU their original deposited order has been altered, in order to better facilitate their use. They are filed in folders by State and national forest designation; each folder then contains in order: correspondence, article, and maps, plus any miscellaneous materials on each forest.
