Historical Note
In 1952 an unsuccessful attempt was made by some Utah Republicans to endorse Dwight D. Eisenhower as Utah's choice to receive the Republican Party's national nomination for president. Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) geography professor, Edwin Peterson, was teaching at the Southern Branch of Utah State Agricultural College in Cedar City. Peterson, an ardent Republican, organized the Eisenhower campaign in southern Utah.
