Biographical Note
The National Farmers Union Service Corporation brought this case against the Utah State Farm Bureau Federation over a publication in which the Bureau labeled the Union a "communist dominated" organization. That claim, the Union insisted, was libelous, and they sought compensatory damages from the Bureau. The jury sided with the plaintiff, awarding them $25,000 in damages. The case is an excellent example of litigation resulting from McCarthy-era rhetoric.
