Biographical Note
Jeff Goldberg was the founder of Contact magazine in the early 1970s. The magazine became the de-facto forum of literary and artistic expression by the emerging “Electric Generation”—a small cadre of post-beat and pre-punk artists and writers centered in Philadelphia and New York City. These included the writers and performers Victor Bockris and Andrew Wylie who often collaborated as “Bockris-Wylie,” Otis Brown, Marty Watt, and Goldberg himself. Jeff Goldberg went on to build a career as a journalist and author while Andrew Wylie became a well-known literary agent. Victor Bockris continued to write, producing biographies of Andy Warhol, The Velvet Underground, and Patti Smith.
