Biographical Note
The Western States Folklore Society, founded as the California Folklore Society in 1941, originally sought to study, collect, and preserve folklore within the state, but has now expanded its scope to include regional, national, and international folklore. The organization changed its name in 2004 to reflect this broader focus. The Society's principal publication, Western Quarterly , has been published since 1942. Initially called the California Folklore Quarterly , its name was changed in 1950 to reflect a regional rather than state focus.
