USU Athletics photograph collection
Scope and Contents
This inventory is a collection of various Utah State University sports activities. Currently, basketball (men's), football, wrestling, women's gymnastics and volleyball are represented however; more photographs and sports are likely to be added in the future. This collection also includes photographs from the renovation of Romney Stadium in 1980.

Historical Note
Utah State University has had four official names: Agricultural College of Utah (1888-1916), Utah Agricultural College (1916-1929), Utah State Agricultural College (1929-1957), and Utah State University (1957- to date), on which this collection focuses. Both men and women were involved in organized sports from the university's inception but women's involvment was limited to intramural sports. It wasn't until after the signing of the amended Title IX in 1976 that allowed women to compete nationally in sports such as gymnastics, softball, volleyball and basketball. Men, however, competed in track, football, baseball and basketball first at a local level and then progressed to competing at the national level.
