Scope and Contents

The Asa "Wayne" Arrington photograph collection consists of a handful of black and white photographs from WWII taken from 1943 to 1946 and include shots of Wayne Arrington in uniform, the crew on the deck of the USS Currier (DE-700), and images of Wayne and his brother Leonard from Oran, Algeria in July, 1944. The remaining photographs, taken between 1992 and 1999, are large group pictures taken at U.S.S. Currier reunions. Arrington appears in many of these images.

Biographical Note

Asa Wayne Arrington was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on May 10, 1925. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Currier (DE 700) during WWII where he participated in the invasion of South France and Iwo Jima. After the conclusion of his service in 1946, Arrington attended college and worked as a book keeper. He died on March 31, 2005 and is buried in Twin Falls. His older brother was Leonard James Arrington, former Professor at Utah State University and Mormon historian.

The reunion photographs were taken in 1992, 1996, 1997, and 1999.

Historical Note

The USS Currier (DE-700), a U.S. Navy destroyer, was launched on October 14, 1943 and decommissioned on April 4, 1960. The ship played a major role in WWII, participating in the 1944 assault on Southern France and the invasion of Iwo Jima. During her service, the ship supplied troops, transported soldiers and prisoners of war, escorted convoys, and patrolled coastlines. The Currier received two battle stars for service in WWII and one for service in the Korean War. The crew of the Currier meets every year for a reunion.
