Old Main Fire photograph collection
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of 153 slides of the Old Main fire including the firefighters, bystanders and their reaction to the fire, the damage the fire created, emergency vehicles, and USU students and staff.

Historical Note
On December 19, 1983, an overheated ballast in a fluorescent light on the third floor started a fire in the north wing of the Old Main building. This fire caused extensive damage to the third floor and burned off part of the roof. The decision was made to rebuild the north wing as it had originally been built and after extensive renovation it (along with the west wing which was damaged by water) opened in the fall of 1985.
