Susan Sunada photograph collection
Scope and Contents
The Susan Sunada photograph collection consists of 244 photographs and negatives of headstones and cemeteries for Japanese-Americans in Pocatello, Idaho, and in Utah in Ogden, Price, Lewiston, Salt Lake City, and the Salt Lake Mausoleum (where many Topaz prisoners were cremated). It also includes slides of Utah State University's campus, sporting events, graduation ceremonies, and the Western Writers Conference.

Biographical Note
Susan Sunada was born in Utah to Japanese-American immigrants. She worked as a photojournalist for the Desert News in the 1960 and 70s after graduating from Los Angeles City College. She won awards as an "Outstanding Correspondent" for the Deseret News and a Lifetime Achievement award from the National Association for Asian American Studies for her work as a scholar of Japanese Pioneers. She wrote, produced, and directed the Logan Bicentennial Celebration ice show and represented Japanese and Chinese pioneers in Cache Valley's "Festival of the American West." She wrote Tiny Treasures (1970), Wedding Treasures (1974), and Japanese Pioneers in the Intermountain Area (1991). Susan Sunada passed away September 19, 2014.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
This collection was donated to USU Special Collections by George and Susan Sunada in three batches, two during the 1980s and one in 2003.
