Biographical / Historical
USU has long been involved with international outreach. Beginning in the immediate post World War II period, the institution dispatched agricultural and engineering experts to Iran and other Middle Eastern countries. During the 1960s, international work commenced in Bolivia and other Latin American countries. With the appointment of President Glen L. Taggart, International Programs expanded throughout the 1970s, waning after the Iranian Revolution in 1977. Still, international outreach remained an important component of USU's mission for the balance of the 20th century. The institution re-envisioned International Programs in 2009, naming it the Office of Global Initiatives. In 2012, the office was closed and international outreach reverted to individual campus units.
