Scope and Contents
This collection consists of black-and-white photographs, commerical postcards, black-and-white and color slides, and negatives. The negatives are located in cold storage. The images from this collection were acquired by Freeman J. Byington during his time serving in the U.S. Military during World War II. The images are of various locations and landmarks in Europe, especially in Germany and France, but also includes Austria, Portugal, Spain, Norway, and the Netherlands. A few of the images are of soldiers in Europe, military training in Utah, and a parade in Logan, Utah. The collection also contains images of the Dachau and Ohrdruf concentration camps taken in 1945.

Biographical Note
Freeman Justin Byington was born in 1912 in Bannock county, Idaho. He graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors and Masters in Agronomy and Plant Breeding in the 1930s, and later served as a Corporal in Battery A, 868th Field Artillery, 65th Division in Patton's Third Army during World War II. He married Doris Harper in 1937 and Vivian Harper Hunter in 1991. Freeman J. Byington passed away at age 91 in February 2004 at his home in Logan, Utah.
