Biographical Note

Gerald Ford met and became friends with the Brown family in the early 1960s when he met James Brown at Weber State University at a benefit dinner for Utah Congressman Laurence Burton. Brown and Ford discovered they had many things in common and their friendship grew during the years. Ford and his family went skiing with the Brown's over Christmas for nine years. They also came to Utah to visit (In October 1973 and again in February of 1974) and the Brown's would go to Colorado to ski and stay at the Ford Family vacation home. The Brown and Ford families traveled together to go skiing at other resorts (Sun Valley, Idaho for example) as well.

Gerald Ford was nominated to be the Vice-President on October 12, 1973 after Spiro Agnew resigned on October 10, 1973. Ford was the house minority whip and congressman from Michigan's Grand Rapids district. Ford became President on August 9, 1974 when Nixon resigned.
