Utah State University student documentary collection on September 11, 2001
Scope and Contents
The collection consists of (56) oral interviews recorded on audio tape, tape logs, fieldwork data sheets, and in some instances transcribed oral narratives. The paperwork accompanying the audio tapes is contained in the first of four boxes in the collection, each informant having an individual folder within the box. The audio tapes are held in the remaining three boxes. The register is arranged alphabetically by collector. Below each collector's name the informant's name is found, followed by the numbers for both the interview paperwork and the corresponding audio tape, the date and place each interview occurred, as well as any other pertinent information.

Restrictions
Open to public research. To access the collection a patron must have the following information: collection number, box number, folder number and item number. The materials do not circulate and are available in USU's Special Collections and Archives.

Permission to publish material from the Utah State University student documentary collection on September 11, 2001 must be obtained from the Curator of the Fife Folklore Archives and/or the Special Collections Department Head.
Historical note
On September 12, 2001, the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress extended an invitation to folklorists and others around the nation to document, by way of oral interviews, the tragic and historic events which occurred in the United States on September 11, 2001. The goal was to initiate a nation-wide effort to record the pressing and immediate responses of the general population during this national time of devastation, sorrow, and uncertainty.
Professor Jeannie B. Thomas, a folklore professor at Utah State University, instigated this documentary project in her fall 2001 semester class(es). Some of her students participated in what was a larger (nation-wide) folklore collecting project. This project was formed in an attempt to document everyday people's reactions to the tragedy of September 11, 2001. Dr. Thomas' students interviewed a variety of people with diverse backgrounds about their feelings in response to the tragic events. This collection is a culmination of those interviews (recorded on audio tape), notes, and transcriptions. This is a closed collection.
