Scope and Contents

This small collection contains research and writing files of Clyde T. Hardy, a professor of structural geology at Utah State University. These files include correspondence, notes, article drafts, and newspaper clippings dealing mainly with his research surrounding meteorites in the Rocky Mountain area. Also included is a folder with Dr. Hardy's obituary, life sketch, and tributes from friends and former students.

Biographical / Historical

Clyde Thomas Hardy (1921-1998) was the only child of Clyde H. and Nellie M. Capper Hardy. He received his BA in geology from Ohio State University (1943), after which he served in the US Army Air Corp as an aerial photographic officer until 1946. He returned to Ohio State University, completing a MS degree (1948) and a PhD (1949) in geology. He joined Utah State Agricultural College (now University) in 1950 as an assistant professor, became associate professor in 1954, professor in 1967, and head of the department of geology in 1968. Dr. Hardy was a dedicated teacher, teaching numerous courses and directing 27 master's students in their field research and geologic mapping. His interests in geology were widespread and included structural, regional, and engineering geology. He retired from USU in 1986.
