Utah State University Agricultural Extension and Distance Education photographs
Scope and Contents
These photographs document the activities of the Utah State University Agricultural Extension Service from 1956 to 1983, though most of the photos are undated. The images from Union Pacific Agricultural extension train are from the 1950s, many of which were taken by Cleon Kotter. Also included are distance education from the 1980s and assorted agricultural photos on campus and in Cache Valley. The material is arranged into 11 folders comprising of candid photographs, portraits, groups of individuals, demonstrations, events and conferences, farming, landscapes, the “Union Pacific Agricultural Improvement Car,” negatives, and other assorted material.

Biographical / Historical
The Utah State University Agricultural Extension Service was created in 1914 to share relevant agricultural knowledge and improve the quality and conditions of rural practices and populations of Utah. To support this mission, the Extension Service partnered with railroad companies like the Union Pacific to sponsor agricultural exhibit trains. These trains and the college faculty that supported them, toured Utah and eastern Nevada, lecturing and demonstrating to farming communities.
