Notable communications include those from L. Howard Marcus and the Douglas F. Madsen, who both served as presidents of the club at different times. Finally, this collection also contains organizational records, including membership ledgers, articles of incorporation, and meeting minutes of the Board of Directors meetings and the annual club and stockholder meetings. Historical Note
The Duckville Gun Club began in 1902 as a nonprofit, private gun club for duck hunting. Many of the club members were Utah residents, but there were members throughout the United States. The club played a significant role in preserving Utah’s wetlands by promoting policies that protected waterfowl.
The club operated successfully during its first fifty years, but in the late 1970s and early 1980s Duckville experienced financial hardships. During the last 15 years that the club operated, flooding became more common in the wetlands of Box Elder County. This created difficult hunting conditions for club members and damaged the club’s infrastructure causing dissatisfaction among the club’s shareholders and members. In 1985, many club members stopped paying their club dues and by 1987, only seven members remained. The club disbanded in 1989
