Biographical / Historical

The Department of Applied Economics, originally the Department of Agricultural Economics, was established in 1921 under joint administration by the Schools of Agriculture and Commerce (predecessors to the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences and Jon M. Huntsman School of Business). After 1957, it primarily operated out of the College of Agriculture, though it continued as a joint department from 1976 to 2008. Subsequently, the department's name was changed to the Department of Applied Economics in 2008. Beginning in 2025, it now operates out of the S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
