Biographical / Historical

The Department of Nutrition Dietetics and Food Sciences was created in 1957. It was originally called the Department of Foods and Nutrition and operated out of the College of Home and Family Living, predecessors to the College of Family. By 1967, a similar department began operating out of the College of Agriculture called the Department of Food Science and Industries. Both departments were interdepartmental to some degree until the closure of the College of Family Life in 2004. Afterward, the department was solely operated out of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. Around 2009, the name changed to Department of Nutrition Dietetics and Food Sciences.

Beginning in 2025, the Department of Nutrition Dietetics and Food Sciences, along with its previous iterations, operates within the S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
