President Noelle E. Cockett papers
Scope and Contents
The President Noelle E. Cockett papers include personal notes, cards, and thank you letters, most including a date stamp of presumably the date received. Also included are some Utah State University official reports and publications, and talk and speech transcripts given by Dr. Cockett. Of note are the meeting minutes, reports, and notes relating to two specific events in USU history: when the College of Eastern Utah became a branch of USU, and during the initial stages of the world-wide pandemic, COVID-19. This collection also includes digital born materials collected by the University Archivist that document significant memos sent by President Cockett and related news articles. There may be future accruals to this collection that may include correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other documentation from the Office of the President.

Biographical / Historical
After receiving her bachelor's degree in animal science from Montana State University and master's degree and doctorate degrees in animal breeding and genetics from Oregon State University, Noelle Cockett spent five years as a research geneticist at the USDA Agricultural Research Service's Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, Nebraska. She joined Utah State University in 1990 and served in several administrative positions, including the dean of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, the vice president for Extension, the director of the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station, and the executive vice president and provost. Cockett began her official tenure as USU's 16th university president in January 2017. Cockett was the first women to hold this position. She served in that position until July 2023 when she announced her retirement as President and returned to USU as a professor for the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.

Abstract
The President Noelle E. Cockett papers contain highlights of her time at Utah State University (USU) as the 16th University President and Dean of the College of Agriculture. Cockett was the first women to hold the postion of University President in USU history.
Arrangement
This collection is arranged into three series:
I. Personal materials: including correspondence and USU published materials;
II. Professional materials: including administrative records and speech transcripts;
III. Born Digital Materials: including PDFs of presidential memos and news articles Access to some digital files may currently be only available by request.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
This collection was transferred to the University Archivist by Noelle Cockett in 2024.
Processing Information
Inauguration materials processed in December of 2019. Additional materials processed in 2024. Digital born materials processed in June 2025.
