Biographical / Historical
1889-1950
In 1889, the Utah Agricultural College, now known as Utah State University (USU), established the first business degree west of the Mississippi River. In 1906, Utah Agriculture College (UAC) divided its curriculum into five schools, including the School of Commerce, a predecessor to the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business. Around 1918, the name was changed to the School of Commerce and Business Administration.
1957-2006
In 1957, Utah State Agricultural College became USU, and the School of Commerce and Business Administration became the College of Business and Social Sciences. During this time, the George S. Eccles Business building was built and dedicated, and USU established the second oldest Undergraduate Research Program in the nation. Around 1969, the College split into the College of Business and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
2007-2025
Following a donation for the Huntsman Foundation, the College of Business became the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business starting in 2007. The Huntsman Hall, a major building project that connected the existing Eccles Business building and the new addition, was completed in 2016.
