Bear River High School records
Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of records from Bear River High School’s principal, teachers, and student council. The student council materials are of particular interest, as they provide a detailed, daily account of activities at the school. Also significant is the grade book, which dates back to the time when the school met on the third floor of Garland Elementary. Together, these records would be of interest to anyone researching early education or the teenage experience in Box Elder County.

Historical Note
Before 1916 Garland only had an elementary school, so if students wanted to take any additional schooling they had to go to Brigham City or Logan. That year, however, teachers began to offer additional grades in the classrooms on the third floor of the Garland Elementary. Soon it became clear that the area needed a new campus for these advanced students, and Bear River High School was built in 1921. Both Tremonton and Garland wanted the school, so city leaders eventually agreed to construct the new campus halfway between the two communities. The present Bear River High School remains at this location, though it has been expanded several times over the years.
