Scope and Contents

This collection contains materials related to Patience Thatcher as well as her mother, Jean. About half of the collection consists of Jean’s diaries, music lesson registers, and title documents for property in Logan. The bulk of Patience’s materials are copies of legal documents and correspondence regarding the distribution of her estate at the time of her death in 1980. Included in those documents are copies of her adoption records.

Biographical Note

Born on April 24, 1897 in Boston, Massachusetts, Patience Thatcher was the adopted daughter of George Washington Thatcher and Emily Jean Crismon Thatcher. She attended the Utah Agricultural College, studied voice and violin in New York City, taught music in Logan, served as the president of the George Thatcher Corporation, and was affiliated with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the American Humane Society. A great benefactor of the arts, Patience passed away on February 8, 1980 in Logan, Utah.
