Jensen Haslem Architects collection
Scope and Contents
This collection contains the blueprints, project files, manuals and specification originals of JHCH Architects and Jensen Haslem Architects prior to 2003, when the company merged with Peterson Hammond Architects. These materials are beneficial to anyone researching architectural history in Northern Utah.
The collection is divided into three categories: architectural drawings, project files and project manuals. The drawings have been deposited in archival tubes while the project files and manuals are placed chronologically in 36 archival boxes. The collection retains the original project numbers given by the company. These numbers include the last two digits of the year that the project was contracted, then the number of the project (e.g. year 1995 and project number 003, would result in the name “95003”). The folders are also labeled with the project name. The numbers in parenthesis after the project name indicate specifically the folders related to that project are housed in a given box (e.g. if a folder under title box 4 reads “Space Dynamics Lab 27-41,” then only folders 27 through 41 are housed in that box.

Biographical Note
Tom Jensen founded Jensen Haslem Architects, initially named JHCH Architects, in 1980. Tom grew up in Wisconsin and, after achieving a degree in architectural design from Cornell University in 1970, he set up his own practice. In 1976, Jensen and his wife, Ronna, moved to Logan, Utah where he set up the architectural firm four years later.
In the beginning, the company was small, completing only a few projects per year. However, by 1997 it had grown considerably, boasting an office in Salt Lake City and a total of 38 professional employees. In that same year, the company changed its name to Jensen Haslem Architects and added principal architects Donald Finlayson and Jon Erdmann to the team.
In 2003, Jensen Haslem merged with Peterson Hammond Architects to form Architectural Nexus, with Donald Finlayson as president and Tom Jensen as chairman of the board of directors. The company has since developed into one of the top architectural firms in Utah and placed among the top 60 architectural firms in the United States. Architectural Nexus has designed several notable projects in the region, including the Huntsman Cancer Research Hospital in Salt Lake City, American West Heritage Center in Wellsville, Utah, the Logan Transit Center, and several others. In 2013, Tom Jensen left his position as chairman of the board and moved to Jordan in order to help start a new architectural program at the American University of Madaba.
