Abby Groesbeck Jenson diaries and account books

 Collection
Identifier: UUS_COLL MSS 123

Scope and Contents

The diaries of Abby Groesbeck Jenson contain a virtually daily account of her life from 1928 to 1963. She originally lived in Brigham City, moving to Logan after the death of her husband in 1939.

Entries are mostly ordinary household matters, conditioned with her literary and gardening interests, and probably give a good day- by-day account of average household work in a middle class northern Utah home during the period. While her entries are daily during World War II, there is very little mention of any event outside of her own circle and her own home.

In Logan she worked as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple, and provides some insight to the special arrangements made for Mormon servicemen to obtain their Endowments before leaving for the U.S. Army.

When ill-health forced her to leave her own home, she moved to Sunshine Terrace; and her last entries record her life in that nursing home and the events in it.
