Jack Micheline papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of correspondence, one of Jack's obituaries, promotional materials for artistic events, and a photograph of Jack with Charlie Mingus. Several items have been inscribed to Micheline's friend, Malcolm Whyte. These items would be useful for those interested in Beat poetry, the publishing process, and the life of Jack Micheline in general.

Biographical Note
Jack Micheline, born Harold Martin Silver on November 6, 1929, in New York City, was an American poet and artist in the mid-20th century. He was an important figure in the Beat and San Francisco Renaissance movements. His work was published more than a dozen times. Some of his well-known titles are: “River of Red Wine,” for which Jack Kerouc wrote the introduction, “In the Bronx and Other Stories,” “Purple Submarine,” “Poems of Dr. Innisfree,” and “sixty-seven poems for downtrodden saints.” Later in life, Jack also became a successful painter. After moving to San Francisco in the 1970s, he continued to travel extensively. Jack died on February 27, 1998 and was survived by his son, Vincent Silver.
