Ernesto Edwards papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of correspondence with Edwards’ friends and family, personal journals, and memoranda from a variety of art and poetry exhibits. It also contains original, unpublished works from both Edwards and his acquaintances and several published versions of those works. These materials may be useful for those interested in the Beats and associated literary movements such as the San Francisco Renaissance, Black Mountain Poets, and others.

Biographical Note
Ernesto Edwards was born in Salt Lake City, UT, in 1933. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1962 and travelled to California, where he was introduced to the Beat movement and became friends with many of the Beat poets. Shortly after that, he moved to San Francisco, where he developed an interest in collage art. Edwards made collages and wrote poetry during his time in San Francisco as well as during his later life in Arizona and Utah. He maintained friendships with many of the artists and poets from the Beat, San Francisco Renaissance, and Black Mountain movements, including Lewis Ellingham, Bill McNeill, Helen Adam, Joanne Kyger, Knute Stiles, Larry Fagin, Robert Duncan, and Russel Fitzgerald.
