Depicts a group of pioneers and their wagon train at the continental divide looking towards the Pacific Ocean. Notice pioneers William Lewis ( seated on horse on the left) and Daniel Boone (on rock hill standing over two women), freed African-American slave in foreground and American Flag in background. Leutze was born in Germany but trained as an artist in the United States...
