On December 19, 1983, an overheated ballast in a fluorescent light on the third floor started a fire in the north wing of the Old Main building. This fire caused extensive damage to the third floor and burned off part of the roof. The decision was made to rebuild the north wing as it had originally been built and after extensive renovation it (along with the west wing which was damaged by water) opened in the fall of 1985.

This collection includes oral histories, original interview cassette tapes, brief bios of the interviewees, transcriptions, news clippings, essays and photographs related to Marie Fuhriman Olsen's fieldwork and Cache Valley cities and residents (boxes 1-5). It also includes personal research and writings by Marie Fuhriman Olsen (boxes 6 and 7).

The photographs in the collection were used or intended to be used in the magazine and consist of faculty and staff portraits, departmental photos, building projects, student artwork, athletics, speakers, USU alumni, events and scenes at Utah State University, Aggie supporters, and student affairs. Some of the photos are historical images made from existing Special Collections photographs.

The Edwin L. Peterson Family photograph collection consists of 69 photos from Dr. Peterson's time in the Army during and after WWII, photos of USU President Elmer G. Peterson with Shivwit Indians, dinosaur bone excavations, Spanish American War volunteers, and miscellaneous family photos.

This collection contains Peterson's LDS missionary papers, publications, research papers, professional affiliations, oral history materials, personal and professional correspondence, and a collection of editorial correspondence (1983-1992) from The Dialogue: a Journal of Mormon Thought.

President E.G. Peterson papers document Utah State University history between 1916 to 1946, recording a transitional period for the Agricultural College.
